Disc Golf in Jefferson Parish (New Orleans) in a BIG WAY at THE BIG EASY Open-- Press Conference Video

Updated: Oct 5

Video produced and released by Jefferson Parish

Visit Jefferson Parish announced Thursday at a press conference that the Disc Golf Pro Tour was hosting an elite tournament which will take place on March 13th-15th, 2026. HouckDesign shared the plans that are underway, and the New Orleans Disc Golf Club along with the Jefferson Parish Parks and Rec have been busy working hard to get things organized and achieved in time for the event. Thank you DGPT CEO, Jeff Spring, for selecting this location for a Pro Tour event. Jeff came to walk the course for a site review earlier this year and was impressed with the tall huge cypress and how they are such a significant part of the design. This course has its own distinct look and feel.

A big thanks also to all the individuals working on this project with Jefferson Parish. Everyone involved is aligned in the goal of bringing a premier disc golf event on a newly expanded and renovated premier course. This course will showcase a new pond, the canal which will come into play, spectator areas which include the boardwalk, and a vendor village with plans yet to be revealed. You will need to buy your ticket, come on down, and experience this tournament, as it will show you how far this sport has come, and what the latest is in course design on HouckDesign courses.

This course will mark the firsts of several improvements and innovations in design and is a pivotal point in our own design practices at HouckDesign. We will be showcasing never- before-seen things (including my design of tee areas) which will delight the spectators

and the players.

The bar is set high, and everyone is working hard to make sure things get done in time. Fairways will be built up and seeded -- and so much more. Some landscaping features will be used for greater sustainability and will also beautify the course.

This course is going to showcase some things which could become standard on our future projects for Elite Championship courses. It does require a bigger budget as there is a lot more work that goes into it.

More clients are recognizing the ROI and are allowing us to do what we do best. I really appreciate this Parish for the genuine effort and understanding the vision of a course like this which we hope will remain a popular disc golf destination long into the future. This course has the capacity to accommodate a thousand or more spectators on some holes. John designed it so that spectators can be accommodated on just about every hole. It will serve the needs of a high-growth industry as a venue for world class events and tourism to Jefferson Parish. The economic impact will be year round as disc golfers like to travel to play the DGPT courses and the best HouckDesign courses.

What the land lacks in elevation and topography, it more than makes up in the design, build, use of water, use of majestic trees for strategy in the fairway. John has been waiting to show some new features and design concepts and he is able to do that on this course.

"The days go by fast even though I'm starting at 7am and it's 7pm before I know it, and I've still got a lot left on my plate at the end of each day. Really enjoying working on-site through the challenges and often it just doesn't feel like work. It's more like solving a puzzle. The beauty of the towering tall cypress is something one has to experience in person," John says with wonder.

Buy your tickets when they go on sale. Two pre-sale ticket batches released as Early Bird tickets sold out quickly. “This is going to be one popular and well-attended event.” predicts John. If you can make it, don't miss the opportunity to come and enjoy this DGPT event on March 13th-15th, 2026.

Immediately following, will be the 3DISCgolf (3DG-Con) disc golf course design conference which starts Monday March 16th and goes to March 18th, 2026. Registration opens November 30th for the conference and this years topics and agenda will be shared at that time.

The BIG EASY in a bigger better way — that says it all.

Make it bigger and better by joining in to watch the action and come spectate!
